 Black Quarter Vaccine (Alum precipitated) 

Description:

Ø  Prepared from highly antigenic strain of clostridium chauvoei grown in anaerobic fluid medium, inactivated by formalin and precipitated by addition of alum.

Ø  Vaccination should be done prior to monsoon in rainfall and outbreak areas and in endemic areas.

Presentation :                     250 ml bottles ( 50 Doses )

Dose:                                 5 to 10 ml for cattle & buffaloes depending upon the size

                                         of the animal.

                                          5 ml for sheep & goats

Route of Administration:       Through subcutaneous

Age:                                   Six months and above

Immunity:                           Six months

Keeping quality of Vaccine:  21 days at room temperature

                                         Six months at 4°C

 

Haemorrhagic Septicaemia Vaccine (Alum Precipitated) 

Description:

Ø  Prepared from highly antigenic  strain of Pasteurella multocida inactivated by formalin and precipitated by addition of alum.

Presentation:                      250 ml bottles ( 50 Doses )

Dose:                                5 to 10 ml for cattle & buffaloes depending upon the size of the animal.

Route of Administration:     Through subcutaneous

Age:                                  Six months and above

Immunity:                          Six months

Keeping quality of Vaccine:21 days at room temperature & Six months at 4°C 

 

 

  Enterotoxaemia Vaccine (Sheep) 

Description:

Ø  Prepared from highly toxigenic strain of clostridium perfringens type D grown in anaerobic fluid medium,  activated by trypsin, rendered sterile and atoxic by addition of  formalin and precipitated by addition of alum.

Ø  Periodical vaccination in endemic and outbreak areas

Presentation:                      250 ml bottles

Dose:                                Three to five ml.

Route of Administration:     Through subcutaneous

Age:                                  Lambs Three months and above

                                        Pregnant ewes can safely vaccinated                            

Immunity:                          Six months

 

Keeping quality of vaccine: 21 days at room temperature

 Anthrax Spore Vaccine (Living) 

Description:

Ø  ASV is a glycerinated suspension of live spores of un-capsulated avirulent strain of Bacillus anthracis

Ø  Periodical vaccination in endemic and outbreak areas & can be used to protect all species of animals cattle,sheep,goat,horse,ass,elephant,pig and camel.

Presentation:                     250 ml (250 doses), 100 ml (100 doses) bottles

Dose:                               cattle - 1 ml S/c

                                       Sheep & goats – 0.5 ml S/c

Route of Administration:    Through subcutaneous

Age:                                Six months and above

Immunity:                        10 months to one year against natural infection

Keeping quality of vaccine:21 days at room temperature

Precautions:                    since the vaccine contains attenuated live spores care should be taken while vaccination 

 

CELL CULTURE SHEEP POX VACCINE ( LIVING ) 

Description:

                   Cell Culture Sheep Pox Vaccine is prepared from an attenuated strain of sheep pox virus  (Ranipet Strain) grown in secondary culture of sheep thyroid cells and freeze dried & supplied as aluminum hydroxide gel absorbed vaccine.

Presentation:                   50 ml (100 doses), 100 ml (200 doses) bottles

Dose:                             Sheep– 0.5 ml S/c

Route of Administration:  subcutaneously in the external aspect of the ear about an inch from the tip after cleaning the area with sterile cotton wool

Age:                               Lambs above 3 months of age

Immunity:                       confers immunity in 21 days after vaccination and the immunity lasts for one year

Keeping quality of vaccine: should be used with in 10days from the date of dispatch & should be transported in an Ice-Box packed with ice

Precautions:               i.          Antiseptics should not be used for cleaning the site of   vaccination.

                                ii.         Care should be taken to avoid vaccine get in to blood vessel.

                                iii.        In  outbreak healthy animals alone should be vaccinated.

 

       Poultry vaccines

Ø  Egg adopted vaccines

Ø  Prepared out of living ranikhet disease virus of high antigenicity and low virulence strains  by freeze drying the emulsion of embryo and fluids from infected embryonated eggs.

Transportation of Poultry vaccines:

            The vaccine should be transported on ice in thermo cool boxes.

Storage and Keeping quality:

            The vaccine can be stored at -20’c in deep freezer for one year.

            When transported on ice and stored in freezing chamber of refrigerator , the vaccine can be used up to 2months from the date of dispatch.

REGIONAL CENTER FOR FMD TYPING 

  • A Regional Centre sponsored by ICAR Scheme namely ‘All India Co-Ordinated Research Project (AICRP) for Epidemiological Studies on FMD’ is functioning in the Institute.
  • Tissue samples from animals affected during FMD outbreaks were collected/received and typed.
  • Sero-monitoring work using the latest LPB Elisa is also carried out in the Centre.           
  • The technical control of the Centre is vested with the Project Director, AICRP on FMD, IVRI, Mukhteswar in Uttaranchal State.

Supply of FMD Vaccine & PPR Vaccine 

Ø  This Institute acts as a distribution point for Foot & Mouth Disease FMD Vaccine and PPR Vaccine produced by other organizations under control programmes.

Ø  The Vaccines are received, kept in Cold Storage and supplied to field according to Head office directions. 

 

            Despatch of Biologicals                

Despatch of Bacterial vaccines

Ø  Bacterial Vaccines are dispatched at free of cost with prescribed duly filled indent formats by Veterinary assistant surgeons  to government institutions throughout  Tamilnadu.

 Ø  Based on their indent bacterial vaccines are dispatched either through special messengers deputed by them under cold chain or through approved parcel agencies .

 Ø  Bacterial vaccines dispatched through parcel without cold chain should be used with in 21days from the date of dispatch from this institute and supplied through special messengers with cold chain can be kept 6 months at 4’c from the date of manufacture.

 Ø  The vaccines indented under ASCAD scheme should be routed only through ADIU of concern district.

Despatch of Viral vaccines

Ø  Poultry vaccines (RDVK) are regularly dispatched at free of cost to  Government  veterinary Institutions for  weekly  Saturday Ranikhet Vaccination through packet post directly to all the vet institutions in Tamilnadu and  also dispatched at  cost basis for private commercial poultry and duck farmers .

 Ø  Apart from these, Poultry vaccines are dispatched to selling outlet units on credit basis (PDDL Andagalur gate, PDDL Erode & VH Nammakkal) based on their requirements under cold chain.

 Ø  RDVK dispatched through packet post should be used within 8 days from the date of dispatch. Keeping the RDVK vials received by packet post in refrigerator will not extend the self life of the vaccine.

 Ø  Poultry Vaccines transported on ice and stored in freezing chamber of refrigerator , the vaccine can be used up to 2months from the date of dispatch.

 Ø  Cost vaccines like RDVF,RD Lasota, RDVK 1000doses are supplied only for cost basis except for govt farms.

 Ø  DPV are supplied at cost basis not only for TN farmesr and also to other states

 Ø  SPV is supplied at free of cost to department and on cost basis.

 Common Precautions should be followed while vaccination:

1. The vaccine bottles should be thoroughly shaken before use

2. The usual aseptic precautions should be strictly followed particularly when      vaccinating in outbreak areas.

3. Vaccine should be transported in an Ice-Box packed with ice.

4. The site of injection should be gently massaged.

Grand Validictory Function to Dr Thilagavathy, Research Officer was held on 29.09.2014 at "MGM - Virundhu Resort". Around 30 Veterinarians participated in the function. Dr Thilagavathu was felicitated for her dediacted work, administartive talent and her uncomparable decent and diplomatic behaviour.
